Course Information
In Singapore, over 35,000 babies are born each year, and the care of newborns and mothers during the postnatal period is traditionally provided by confinement nannies. There has been a growing number of confinement agencies and centers in Singapore. Unfortunately, the quality of care varies widely due to the absence of formal training standards.
We have developed a reskilling course for individuals involved in postnatal mother and newborn care to address this issue. This course aims to improve care practices and service standards for mothers and infants from childbirth up to four to six weeks post-delivery, providing structured training. It benefits the in-service employees from the active confinement and nanny agencies in Singapore, offering them formalized training opportunities for career advancement and job satisfaction.
Additionally, this course is open to mid-career individuals seeking new opportunities in the growing Care Economy and women looking to re-enter the workforce. This course is also suitable for caregivers, including parents, grandparents, and others interested in acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to care for their own family members.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, the learners should be able to :
- identify common problems in the mother and infant after delivery
- demonstrate competence in the basic care of mother and infant
- provide support, care and/or health teaching to the breastfeeding mother and infant
- handle the infant safely
- initiate first aid care immediately after an injury; and communicate effectively with the mother and family members through the use of verbal and/or non-verbal channels.
