Withdrawal vs Deferment
- Learner should consider withdrawal if learner has decided to discontinue his/her studies and there is no intention to return to study.
- Learner should consider deferment in cases where learner intend to take a temporary break from course of study. No deferment is allowed for your first semester. Note that deferred semester is counted towards maximum candidature (point 12).
- You can only defer one semester at a time. To resume studies, please submit your reinstatement at least 1 month before deferment end date.
- There shall be no refund of course fees for withdrawal or deferment request submitted after course start date.
Withdrawals: Part-Time Diploma & Post Diploma Courses
How do I withdraw from a part-time diploma or post-diploma course?
You are required to submit your course withdrawal request through the STEP portal under the ‘Request & Task’ tab. Please note you are required to do this before the start of the Study & Examination Weeks.
Things to note before you submit before your submit your course withdrawal request:
- You will be considered a student of the Polytechnic and are subjected to the same rules and regulations until the school endorses your withdrawal requests.
- Withdrawal requests submitted on or after the start of Study & Exam Weeks will only be processed after the release of the semester examination results.
- Please refer to NP’s Academic Calendar for Term Break, Study & Exam Weeks period. (Academic Calendar)
- There shall be no refund of course fees for withdrawal requests submitted after course start date.
- Non-subsidised module fees will be payable if you are enrolled into a module which you have taken or enrolled previously
- Your access to the Learner’s Portal will be de-activated upon approval of your withdrawal request.
- Group personal accident insurance coverage will cease upon successful course withdrawal.
- Your request for withdrawal can only be processed after you have:
- Cleared all outstanding bills; and
- Returned all library books.

How do I withdraw from a short course?
You may submit your request for course withdrawal through the STEP portal under ‘Request & Task’.
Deferment: Part-Time Diploma and Post Diploma Courses
How do I request for a deferment for my part-time diploma or post diploma course?
You are required to submit your request for deferment through the STEP portal under ‘Request & Task’ no later than a week after your semester’s term break.
Things to note before you submit your course deferment request:
- You will be considered a student of the Polytechnic and are subjected to the same rules and regulations until the school endorses your deferment request.
- Deferment requests submitted on or after the start of Study & Exam weeks will only be processed after the release of the semester examination results.
- Please refer to NP’s Academic Calendar for Term Break, Study & Exam period. (Academic Calendar)
- You can only defer for one (1) semester for each request.
- Reinstatement request has to be submitted at least 1 month before deferment end date, failing which you will not be able to withdraw from request .
- You have to complete the entire course by the maximum candidature period (2 x course duration).
- There shall be no refund of course fees for request submitted after course start date.
- Non-subsidised module fees will be payable for the deferred modules upon resumption of studies.
- Your access to Learner’s Portal will be de-activated upon approval of this request.
- Group personal accident insurance coverage will cease during the deferment period.
- Your request for deferment can only be processed after you have:
- Cleared all outstanding bills; and
- Returned all library books.
What is the process for resuming studies after a deferment?
Learners who wish to resume their studies are required to submit a written request to EnquiryCET@np.edu.sg for approval. Your request will be subjected to the course availability and vacancy.
What should I do if I want to transfer to another course?
You may transfer to another course during the appeals period. For more information, refer to STEP Resource, Learner’s Handbook for more details.

What is the refund policy for course withdrawals and deferments?
For Part-Time Diploma, Post-Diploma and Short Courses including WSQ Courses and SkillsFuture Career Transition Programmes (SCTP)

* There will be no fee refund for participants who do not turn up for the course. All requests for refunds are subject to approval. The refund process may take several weeks. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Courses, SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP)
Learners who are eligible for SSG funding must pass all assessment components. Individuals or Organisations will be liable to pay the full course fees in the event that learners drop out of the programme midway or fail to meet the assessment requirements and the other terms and conditions for SSG funding eligibility.
