Course Objectives

The Specialist Diploma in Cybersecurity Practice (SDCP1) would equip learners with technical skills and competencies to perform the job function of an associate security analyst role. They will learn how to respond, protect and defend computer systems and networks from cyber-attacks, diagnose and investigate cybersecurity events or crimes related to computer systems and digital evidence, and how to effectively communicate in a professional setting to address information security issues.

Course Description

The Specialist Diploma in Community Optometry is a part-time CET course, consist of the following modules:

Trainer's Profile

Sun Lei

Sun Lei holds a Master of Computing in Information Systems from the National University of Singapore and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Nanyang Technological University.

Before transitioning to academia full-time in 2013, Mr. Sun gained extensive industry experience in cybersecurity, including security monitoring, defending, auditing, incident response, and risk management.

At Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Mr. Sun’s academic focus centers on cloud security, network security, and cryptography. He actively engages in industry conferences and contributes to curriculum development. His research paper, “Synergizing Next-Generation Firewalls and Defense-in-Depth Strategies in a Dynamic Cybersecurity Landscape”, was presented at the 4th International Conference on Computer Network Security and Software Engineering (CNSSE 2024) and published in the SPIE Digital Library. He also presented at the Redesigning Pedagogy International Conference (RPIC 2024) on the topic “Server & Cloud Security - A Learner-Centred Approach with Industry in Curriculum”.

Mr. Sun teaches a range of courses, including the Specialist Diploma in Cybersecurity Practice, Specialist Diploma in Cloud Security, Google Cloud Architect Bootcamp, Cyber Security Essentials, and Ethical Hacking & Penetration Testing.

Arthur Tan

Arthur Tan holds a Diploma in IT, an Advanced Diploma in Computing and a Specialist Diploma in Information Security. He possesses a Degree in Computing Science (Hons) and a Master of Science Degree in Information Systems (MSc).

While working with different products and systems, Arthur Tan’s professional certifications include:

  • EC-Council Security Analyst (ECSA)
  • CREST Practitioner Security Analyst (CPSA)
  • EC-Council Instructor for Ethical Hacker (CEH)

Arthur’s specialisations are in managing organisational networks and servers, training in security awareness, security hardenings and patching for networks, servers and IOT devices.

Arthur has been in the IT industry for 30 years. He has held various positions such as IT Technician, Service Engineer, regional IT and Network Administrator and Citrix Specialist. His job roles include training junior staff around the South-East Asia region, functioning as an internal auditor for regional offices and managing a technical department as a Technical Director.

Arthur Tan is a current lecturer at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He teaches Windows & Linux Administration, Ethical Hackings and Ethical Hacking Essentials for SCTP “Google Cloud Architect Bootcamp” (GCAB) and the “Specialist Diploma in Cybersecurity Practice”.

Mohamed Saifulamri Omar

Mohamed Saifulamri Omar received his Bachelor of Applied Science (Computer Engineering) and a Master of Science in Information Studies from Nanyang Technological University. On top of that, he also holds a Master of Business Administration from Victoria Graduate School of Business. Mohamed has the following professional certifications:

  • CEH, EC-Council
  • CHFI, EC-Council
  • ECSA, EC-Council
  • CySA+, CompTia
Mohamed is also a certified EC-Council and Cisco instructor training Certified Ethical Hacking (CEH) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) courses respectively. He has more than a decade of teaching cybersecurity to young learners and working adults. Currently, he is with Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) imparting his cybersecurity know-hows to NP students and adult learners.

Apart from that, Mohamed is also actively involved with WorldSkills (Cybersecurity) competitions. He is part of the Technical Working Group (TWG) committee that oversees the implementation of WorldSkills (Cybersecurity) competition. He also worked closely with agencies such as Cybersecurity Agency of Singapore (CSA) and Singapore Police Force (SPF) in creating cybersecurity awareness through Youth Cybersecurity Exploratory Program (YCEP) bootcamp.

Konidala Divyan Munirathnam 

Divyan Konidala holds a Ph.D in Information and Communications Engineering, majoring in Cryptology and Information Security from Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, South Korea. 

Divyan is also a certified cybersecurity professional with the following certifications: ACTA, GREM, GWAPT, CEH, ECSA, ECIH, EC|CSA, and Security+. He conducts training in the following areas of cybersecurity: Vulnerability Assessment & Penetration Testing, Web Application Penetration Testing, Malware Analysis & Reverse Engineering, Cybersecurity Operations, Secure Software Development, and Cloud Security. His current area of interest is in AI for Cybersecurity. 

Before joining Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Divyan worked at School of Computing and Information Systems, Singapore Management University, as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow.  

Divyan is passionate about skilling, reskilling, and upskilling learners in the field of cybersecurity. He has successfully worked with cross-functional teams to plan, design, execute, and coordinate various cybersecurity awareness and education programmes and curriculum for learners and corporations. 

Divyan is a cybersecurity educator and leader with over 12 years of experience in curriculum design, course development, and delivery. He is currently the Assistant Director for Continuing Education & Training (CET), and Tech Skills Advancement Office (TSAO) at the School of InfoComm Technology - Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Previously he was the Course Chair of Diploma in Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics. 

Divyan has played a pivotal role in launching and heading several SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) funded courses, including Ethical Hacking & Penetration Testing, Cyber Security Essentials, Specialist Diploma in Cybersecurity Practice, and Specialist Diploma in Cloud Security.

Cyber Forensics Investigation (NP-013346)
The Cyber Forensics Investigation module covers the process of detecting hacking attacks on IT and cloud computing systems, and properly extracting evidence to report the crime and conduct audits to prevent future attacks. Students will learn to perform incident response and computer forensics; Identify data, images and/or activity which may be the target of an investigation; perform electronic evidence collections; perform digital forensic acquisitions as an analyst; conduct thorough examinations of computer hard disk drives, and other electronic data storage media; Utilize forensic tools and investigative methods; and maintain audit trail (i.e., chain of custody) and evidence integrity.
Cybersecurity Operations (NP-013345)
The Cybersecurity Operations module covers the fundamentals of security operations centre (SOC) operations. Students will learn log management and correlation; Security information and event management (SIEM) deployment; cyber incident detection; and incident response. Additionally, students will learn to manage various SOC processes, procedures, technologies, and workflows; monitor and analyse logs and alerts from a variety of different technologies across multiple platforms (IDS/IPS, end-point protection, servers, and workstations); develop threat cases (correlation rules), and create reports: plan, organize, and perform threat monitoring and analysis; and escalate incidents to appropriate teams for additional assistance.
Cybersecurity Risk & Compliance (NP-013347)
he Cybersecurity Risk & Compliance module covers relevant IT and cloud frameworks which ensure that information assets are protected within an organization. Students will learn processes and policies for administering and managing a company’s IT systems that follow the compliance framework. Students will also learn concepts on risk management process, risk analysis and mitigation; and to evaluate risks against the company’s critical assets and deploy safeguards to mitigate them. Compliance frameworks such as PDAP, Cyber Security Act, PCIDSS, ISO 17799/27002, and COBIT will be covered.
Ethical Hacking & Penetration Testing (NP-013344)
The Ethical Hacking & Penetration Testing module covers hacking into networks, systems, web applications and cloud, with a goal to assess the potential impact and risk of an actual cyberattack, and to deploy necessary countermeasures. Students will learn techniques and tools malicious hackers use, but in a lawful and legitimate manner. Students will also learn the principles of ethical hacking; penetration testing methodology; reconnaissance of IT and cloud infrastructure; scanning for network, systems, applications, and cloud vulnerabilities; to develop attack vectors to exploit the vulnerabilities; and countermeasures to mitigate the risks of exploitation.
Post-Diploma Certificate in Server Administration and IT Networking
AI tools & techniques for Cybersecurity (NP-0613AITTC)
The AI tools & techniques for Cybersecurity module trains students on various cybersecurity related AI tools & techniques used by the industry. Students will learn how to setup, configure, train, execute, operate, and manage these AI tools & techniques to harden security, detect cyber-attacks, respond to cyber incidents, and restore normal operations.

This module is assessed by coursework.
Cybersecurity Fundamentals (NP-013343)
The Cybersecurity Fundamentals module covers baseline skills needed to perform core cybersecurity functions. It provides an overview of the various domains of cyber security and the essential principles of network security; compliance and operational Security; threats, attacks, and vulnerabilities; application, data and host security; access control and integrity management; and cryptography and PKI.
Networking & IT Infrastructure (NP-013340)
The Networking & IT Infrastructure module covers topics such as network fundamentals, network access, IP connectivity, IP services, and security fundamentals. Students will learn how to install, operate, configure, maintain, and verify basic IPv4 and IPv6 networks. The module covers configuring network components such as switches, routers, and wireless LAN controllers; managing network devices; troubleshooting network problem; identifying basic security threats; and implementing network security, standards, and protocols.
Windows & Linux Server Administration (NP-013341)
The Windows & Linux Server Administration module covers the latest server technologies including virtualization, security, network-attached storage, and disaster recovery. Students will learn about the concepts and the technologies of Windows Server administration, Windows-based networking, Active Directory, account management, and system recovery tools and concepts. Students will also learn about common tasks in major distributions of Linux, including the Linux command line, basic maintenance, installing and configuring workstations, security, Linux troubleshooting & diagnostics, networking, and automation and scripting.
