Cheng Chao
Cheng Chao holds a Master of Science in Marine Technology from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Naval Architecture from Tianjin University, China. She possesses extensive experience in the marine industry as well as in the field of engineering education.Prior to her role at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Cheng Chao was a Principal Naval Architect and Project manager in the Engineering Design Department at Sembcorp Marine Pte Ltd, and a Project manager with consultant company Vuyk Kenton Maine Pte Ltd. In these capacities, she worked in shipyard-based design departments and in design consulting with many clients, with a breadth of industry exposure, leading a variety of projects, including DP2 heavy lift pipe laying vessels, scientific research vessel, jack up rigs, FPSOs and tug boats and merchant ships.
Since 2012, Cheng Chao has been a Senior Lecturer at Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of Engineering. She teaches marine and offshore technology modules such as Naval Architecture, Marine CAD, Marine Design Applications, and Offshore Engineering. Beyond the classroom, she actively mentors and supervises students in diverse projects and internship programs.

Diploma in Engineering (Marine)
Certificate in Marine Offshore Systems
Certificate in Marine Production Management
Certificate in Mechanics
This module also aims to equip students with the skills to analyze problems of rigid bodies in motion. Only linear and rotational motion in two dimensions will be covered. Topics include Kinematics of linear and rotational motion, and Kinetics of linear and rotational motion.
Major topics include deflection of beams, analysis of stability in columns, friction mechanisms such as power screws, belt drives, balancing of flywheels and shafts, and vibration analysis of mechanical systems.
Certificate in Naval Architecture
Certificate in Thermofluid Engineering
Laboratory experiments are included to reinforce the students' theoretical knowledge through visualisation and experimentation.
The module covers process plant layout, P & ID diagram, design for thermal expansion as well as flexibility analysis of piping system. It is designed for personnel who are involved in the piping system for the oil and gas, power plant, chemical as well as building services industries. It provides the students with practical examples in the materials for construction, piping system specifications, design, installation as well as maintenance of piping system.
After attending the course, the students will be able to understand the overview of a process plant system compliance with ASME B31, B16 codes and Singapore Codes of Practice and be able to perform their duties with the piping system more effectively.
Instruction includes concept theory, problem solving, understanding the codes of practice and standards, system design, drafting as well as piping stress analysis.
Laboratory work involves hands-on pump system characteristic and hydraulic losses of piping system will enhances students understanding of the practical aspects of piping system.
