Course Objectives

The Part –Time Diploma (Conversion) in Care and Programme (Student Services & Coaching) (DCCP) aim to prepare the students to demonstrate:
•   Understanding of a child’s development and its implications on student services and practices;
•   Skills and knowledge in managing students’ challenging behaviors
•   Skills and knowledge in guiding students using effective communication, facilitation and behavioral management strategies;
•   Skills and knowledge in managing various processes of programme management such as conducting needs assessment, curriculum planning and development, implementation and evaluation;  
•   Skills and knowledge in managing stakeholders of student services centres;
•   Skills and knowledge in leading and mentoring student services staff

Course Description

The Diploma (Conversion) in Care and Programme (Student Services & Coaching) is a part-time CET course, consist of the following modules:
1. Understanding Student Services (45hrs)
2. Managing Challenging Behaviour (45hrs)
3. Managing Classroom and Group Behaviour (45hrs)
4. Developing and Implementing Effective Programmes (45hrs)
5. Managing Stakeholders: Engaging Parents & Community (45hrs)
6. Enhancing Centre and Human Resource management (45hrs)

Trainer's Profile

Glen Ng Wei Cher

Dr Glen Ng has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Canberra, a Master in Counselling from Monash University, a Diploma in Clinical Supervision (Counselling) from Counselling and Care Centre and a Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis from London College of Clinical Hypnosis and Tan Tock Seng Hospital as well as a WSQ Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP).

Dr Glen has over 25 years of experiences in youth counselling, mentoring and working with youths with special needs.
While working as a Senior Probation Officer and subsequently a Volunteer Probation Officer with the Ministry of Social & Family Development (MSF), Dr Glen has managed more than 100 cases of youth offenders from minor (underage smoking) to major offences (rioting). He was also the Senior Counsellor at Rotary Family Service Centre where he had supervised counsellors, caseworkers and worked with clients to develop programmes for the young and the elderly.

Dr Glen also held several executive positions, first as the Vice-President (Executive Committee) for the Singapore Association for the Deaf, and subsequently founding member and General Manager for Dialogue in the Dark Singapore, where he had facilitated leadership workshops for more than 60 corporate clients, including participants from HSBC Bank, PSA Singapore and INSEAD Business School. He is presently also an EXCO member with the Youth Work Association Singapore (YWAS).

As an educator, Dr Glen helmed the retired “Diploma in Psychology Studies” at the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, where he led a team of counsellors, psychologists, and researchers and also taught in key modules, which include “Introduction to Social Services”, “Fundamentals of Counselling”, “Introduction to Social Entrepreneurship”, and “Community Psychology”. As the Course Chair of the diploma, Dr Glen has mentored more than 200 students aged 17-19 years old, where he advised them on a range of common youth issues.

Jonathan Lee Sze Kian

Jonathan Lee Sze Kian holds a Master in Social Work. He is a registered Social Worker and a Clinical Supervisor. He also holds an “Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment” (ACTA).

Jonathan is passionate about Social Service, Youths, Student Services, Social Work, Community Development and Correctional Services.

In his line of work, Jonathan has done correctional work (in prison). He has also experience working with families, students and youths, handling casework and group work.

Jonathan currently teaches adult learners in the “Diploma (Conversion) in Care and Programme (Student Services and Coaching)” and “Diploma in Care and Programme (Student Services and Coaching)” courses.

Farah Adilla Binte Abdullah

Farah Abdullah is a seasoned educator with over 15 years of enriching experience in the realm of education. As an MOE-trained English language and Social Studies teacher, Farah has honed her expertise in crafting effective teaching methodologies tailored to the diverse learning needs and abilities of her students.

Currently serving as the Senior Manager for Critical Core Skills at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Farah brings a wealth of knowledge and specialisation in literacy and communication to her role. She is also actively involved as an adult trainer for the Diploma in Care and Programme (Student Services & Coaching), where she leads modules focused on classroom management, imparting invaluable skills to future educators.

Before her tenure at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Farah made significant contributions to the educational landscape during her time at the National Library Board (NLB). She played a pivotal role in conceptualising engaging children's programmes across public libraries, schools, and community organisations. Additionally, Farah spearheaded the development and implementation of editorial standards for NLB's various publications, including newsletters, resource guides, activity kits, reading recommendations, and book reviews.

Farah's academic credentials further underscore her dedication to lifelong learning and professional growth. She holds a Master of Science in Information Studies from NTU, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from NIE, and a Bachelor of Arts from NUS, reflecting her commitment to excellence in both pedagogy and information management.

With her extensive background in education, strategic leadership, and commitment to enhancing learning experiences, Farah Abdullah continues to inspire and empower learners within and beyond the academic sphere, leaving a lasting impact on education and literacy initiatives.

Developing and Implementing Effective Programmes (NP-012738)
Participants will be introduced to a systematic framework of programme development which will guide them in the stages of needs assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
Enhancing Centre and Human Resource Management (NP-012740)
Participants will be introduced to a range of possesses that will help to support the operation and human resource management at their centres. They will examine the rationales and effectiveness of the current operations and identify ways to develop more effective processes to improve the overall efficiency of the centre. Legal and ethical considerations in student care practices are also addressed in this module.
Managing Stakeholders: Engaging Parents & Community (NP-012739)
Participants will gain an understanding of the various roles a student care professional plays in working with children, families, other professionals in the community in the holistic care of students. They will learn strategies to engage and partner families and community stakeholders in supporting the overall care of students.
Post-Diploma Certificate in Student Management
Managing Challenging Behaviour (NP-012736)
Participants will gain an understanding of the various developmental issues faced by school-going children (including special needs) and examine the causes of challenging behavior. Participants will learn how to develop and implement basic behavioral strategies based on this understanding.
Managing Classroom and Group Behaviour (NP-012737)
Participants will learn effective classroom management techniques so as to provide an orderly and conducive learning environment for their students. Participants will also be introduced to Group Theory and Group Dynamics Theory and learn facilitation skills to effectively manage and moderate group activities.
Understanding Student Services (NP-012735)
Participants will gain an overview of the roles and responsibilities of working with children. They will be introduced to major theories in child development and their implications on general student care practices and programme implementation. Participants will also be equipped with basic measures to ensure the safety and well-being of their students.
