Course Information

Facilities Management is an interdisciplinary business function, which aims to coordinate the demand and supply of facilities and services within a built environment.

In this age of environmental concerns, facility manager not only plays an important role in sustainable issues, which required to them to look for new designs and technologies that use less energy and resources for maintaining the facilities but also to ensure the health and safety of the building’s occupants.

Mechanical Systems
Provides basic principles of operation of various types of air-conditioning, mechanical ventilation, fire protection, water and sanitary systems as well as installation and maintenance requirements.

Electrical Systems
Provides understanding of electricity supply and circuits, deregulation of energy markets and its impact as well as electrical systems and communication.

Smart and Green Building Technologies
Covers the application of sustainable and green building design concept to our built environment on building performance. It also cover the application of technologies to improve systems energy efficiency.

Water Efficiency Management
Equips participants with the knowledge and skills to conduct water audits and apply water efficiency measures to reduce water consumption in commercial/residential and industries. It covers the regulation on water efficiency requirements, cooling towers operation and water consumption, industrial water solutions, swimming pools operation and water consumption and water efficiency management plan (WEMP).

Property and Asset Management
Provides the knowledge of property and assets in facility management, understanding different types of building tenders and procurement, application of life cycle costing, concept of strata schemes and delivery of BIM in asset management.

Provides the knowledge and practices of fire safety and the roles, responsibilities and practical skills as a fire safety manager.

Security and Risk Management
Equips participants with the knowledge to identify security risk, workplace safety and health management/ hazards, apply appropriate risk assessment and management.

You are required to complete 2 post-diploma certificates within 2-year validity period to be awarded the Diploma (Conversion) qualification.


Entry Requirements

Applicants with any of the following qualifications are invited to apply for the course:
  • A local Polytechnic Diploma / Degree in Engineering, Technology or Physics

    • Practitioners or those seeking a career switch

  • A local Polytechnic Diploma/ Degree in non-engineering / non-technology disciplines

    • A credit or minimum grade of C6 in GCE “O” level Physics or Physical Science

    • Practitioners or those seeking a career switch

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

SkillsFuture Credit
