Course Information

Of course, your dog can never get enough pampering and attention. Now you can learn all the basic grooming skills – from easy styling to safe pedicures – to provide your pooch with all the tender-loving care it deserves. After all, who better to get that tail wagging than your dog’s best friend!

Learning Outcomes

From basic maintenance to canine hygiene, this 1-day workshop equips you with the skills to give your bestie the personal care it needs from the comfort of your home.

Participants will understand the importance of dog grooming in maintaining the health and hygiene of canine companions. They will acquire the knowledge and skills of basic dog grooming including the basics of styling to make canine companions presentable and attractive.

Lesson Plan

Course Description

Topics covered are:
a) Handle and restrain animals properly for grooming
b) Clip and file the nails of dogs
c) Perform cleaning of the ears of dogs
d) Perform basic styling, shaving, and clipping of dog fur
e) Perform anal gland expression
f) Understand and perform the techniques involved in pre-showering, showering and drying of dogs after shower
g) Assess and maintain dental hygiene
h) Perform de-ticking of dogs
i) Perform undercoat grooming and de-matting of dog fur
j) Understand the use of dog grooming tools

Faux fur is provided for participant who does not have a dog to practice on cutting.

Target Audiences

Individuals who are looking to attend foundational lessons to be able to groom their pet dogs effectively at home and individuals who aspire to join the pet grooming industry.

Foo Yee Woon

Yee Woon is a Certified Professional Groomer certified by the prestigious International Professional Groomers (IPG) Inc., USA. With a background spanning 14 years as both a full-time and freelance groomer, Yee Woon has amassed a wealth of experience and expertise in handling and grooming a wide variety of dog breeds. 

Yee Woon’s journey as a groomer has equipped her with an in-depth understanding of breed characteristics and coat types, making her adept at breed and coat recognition. This nuanced knowledge allows her to tailor grooming techniques and treatments specifically to each dog's unique needs. 

One of Yee Woon’s notable strengths lies in her patience and safe handling techniques, particularly beneficial when grooming senior dogs. Her gentle approach and understanding of senior dogs' requirements ensure a stress-free and enjoyable grooming experience, prioritising their well-being above all else. 

Yee Woon has demonstrated a commitment to continuous learning and professional development, by staying abreast of the latest grooming trends, techniques, and industry standards. Her dedication to excellence is reflected in her IPG certification. 

Whether you're a seasoned pet owner or new to dog grooming, Yee Woon's expertise, professionalism, and genuine love for dogs will help you better understand and care for your dogs’ basic grooming needs. 

Certification

Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to participants who achieve at least 75% attendance.


Entry Requirements

  • Individuals bringing dogs should be willing to allow their dogs for basic hands-on procedures with group members. This takes place under the supervision of the trainer and owner. The purpose is to give practical hands-on training to all participants. A maximum of 3 dogs can be accomodated per course run.
  • Only pet dogs which are friendly to people and other dogs are allowed. (Acceptance of dog is based on first come first register basis till maximum number of dogs has reached.)
  • For participants age 18 years and below, parent/guardian is required to also register for the course.

Course Fees

National Silver Academy NSA Funding
Singaporeans aged 50 years and above who wish to apply for the course at the special course fee will need to email a copy of their NRIC during the course fee payment before the course commencement. Eligible for funding by National Silver Academy NSA Funding period for this course is from 1 Apr 2024 to 31 Mar 2025.

SkillsFuture Credit
All Singaporeans aged 25 and above can use their $500 SkillsFuture Credit from the government to pay for a wide range of approved skills-related courses. Visit the SkillsFuture Credit website to choose from the courses available on the Training Exchange course directory.

GST Increment in 2024
Please note that the GST rate will be revised to 9% with effect from 1 Jan 2024, as such any payable course fees will be subjected to the new GST rate adjustments in 2024. Please refer to our STEP portal for the updated fees. (Click on STEP)
