Learning Outcomes

  • Have the basic electrical knowledge on DC and AC electricity.
  • Understand the safety precautions for working on for hybrid vehicle high voltage systems.
  • Understand the functions and operations of high voltage battery for hybrid vehicle.
  • Understand the functions and operations of hybrid vehicle motor and generator.
  • Understand the functions and operations of hybrid vehicle electric converters.
  • Understand the functions and operations of regenerative braking system for hybrid vehicle
  • Understand the functions and operations of high voltage air-con system for hybrid vehicle
  • Understand the hybrid vehicle power configurations and power management
  • Carry out the service and diagnosis on hybrid systems such as battery, starter and generator, converters and air-con system

Trainer's Profile

Steven Xu

Steven Xu is a Senior Lecturer of School of Engineering at the Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the module leader of Automotive Technology and Motorsports (ATMS), a specialization offered under the Polytechnic's Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. He teaches both full time and part time in the following areas: Automotive Technology, Electrical Technology, Electronics Technology, System Design, Mechanical Design and Product Design and Manufacturing Process. He has a Masters Degree from NTU and 20 years working experience in automotive after-sales service industries. He is also in the Technical Expert Panel for Certification for Technical Specialist (Bus) organized by LTA and IES, working with ten over members from different industries and organizations on certifying the bus technicians. He has conducted workshops for SMWA members, ComfortDelGro, SMRT, SBS, ST Land, DSTA, MINDEF, Indeco, Cycle & Carriage, Republic Auto, NEA, EuroAutomobile, LTA, Vicom, ExxonMobil and more.

A Certificate of Performance will be awarded to participants who achieve at least 75% attendance and pass all required assessment(s).


A Certificate of Participation will be awarded to participants who meet the 75% attendance requirement but did not pass all required assessment(s).


Entry Requirements

Applicants should preferably have NTC 2 or Nitec with 5 years related working experience; or a Diploma with 2 years related working experience.

The priority will be given to the applicants who have attended the automotive courses offered by Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Course Fees

Funding period for this course is from 19 Nov 2019 to 31 Dec 2024. 

SkillsFuture Credit

GST Increment in 2024
