Course Information
This course will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to develop and implement an environmental sanitation programme for their workplace, which includes baseline standards such as cleaning frequencies, cleaning and disinfection protocols, pest management, etc. Participants who complete this program will be able to register with NEA and perform their duty as Environmental Control Coordinators.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the participants will be able to
- understand the importance of the Environmental Sanitation Regime, the roles of key stakeholders (the premises managers and environmental control coordinators), and an overview of pest management, cleaning and disinfection and indoor air quality.
- draft and oversee the implementation of an Environmental Sanitation Programme as Environmental Control Coordinators.
Upon successful completion of the course, the participant can apply to NEA to be registered as an Environmental Control Coordinator (ECC).

Course Dates: 6 Nov – 20 Nov 2024
Application Date: 7 Sep – 13 Oct 2024
Course Time: 9am – 5pm
Venue: Online Learning (MS Teams or Zoom platform)
Day 1 – Asynchronous online learning. Online learning materials will be released from 9am onwards. Participants will have one week to learn and complete all the learning materials at their own pace.
Day 2 – Synchronous online learning. There are two group activities. Your active participation and the quality of your work will be assessed. Thus, participants are required to attend the full session from 9am – 6pm via their laptops or PCs.

Trainer's Profile
Dr Chew Joon Lin, a Senior Lecturer at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, brings over two decades of experience in research, education, and management. Her impressive qualifications include a PhD in Stem Cell Genomics, an MSc in Bioparticles Gene Delivery for Allergic Diseases, and a BSc with First Class Honors in Parasitology. Dr Chew holds Specialist and Graduate Diplomas in Workplace Safety and Health, along with a Biosafety Practitioner Certificate from the Novel and Dangerous Pathogens Training Microbiology Services, Public Health England. She is also certified in advance training and assessment (ACTA), counselling, career guidance, neuroscience in education, and holds designations as a LUMA practitioner and Workplace Learning Blueprint Developer.
With a strong background in stem cell biology, cancer biology, genetics, allergic diseases, and microbiology, she brings technical expertise in the fields of life and health sciences. Concurrently managing internship and overseas programs for the Diplomas in the School of Life Science and Chemical Technology, she possesses a profound understanding of industry requirements and global perspectives. This enables her to design training modules that bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world demands, utilising a dynamic blend of hands-on activities, case studies, and interactive discussions to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Dr Chew has launched courses in emerging fields and is actively engaged in adult education and training. She lectures on various topics in biomedical sciences, workplace safety and health, and career preparation. She has contributed as a course developer, assessor, and trainer for numerous certification and short courses. Currently, she is the developer, assessor, and trainer for the joint-polytechnic Part-time Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science and the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC)-accredited Environmental Cleaning for the Healthcare Setting course at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH).
Dr Chew is also involved in workplace safety and health consulting and on-the-job training development for companies. Her consulting experience includes successfully developing a comprehensive safety management system for a biotechnology company and guiding the organisation to attain safety accreditation.
Certification
This is a course with assessment components.
Upon successful completion of the course, the participant can apply to NEA to be licensed as an Environmental Control Coordinator (ECC).
A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to learner who achieve at least 75% attendance and pass all required assessment(s).
A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to learner who meet the 75% attendance requirement.
Entry Requirements
Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 5 for Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing;
OR
Pass in ‘N’ level English
Important Note:
Attending and passing the ECC course will not automatically lead to a successful registration as an ECC with the National Environment Agency (NEA). The minimum requirements to apply for ECC Certificate of Registration with NEA (besides passing the ECC course assessment) is Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 5 for Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing or pass in ‘N’ level English. For applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements, NEA may consider other qualifications and relevant working experience. Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements to apply for ECC Certificate of Registration should seek clarifications from NEA before signing up for ECC course.
