Course Objectives

The course aims to develop and supply entry-level media talents to meet growing demand as the economy moves into the recovery phase from 2021 onwards.
The DDC course is aimed at upskilling or reskilling participants with no prior experience or formal training in digital communication to enable them to pivot towards the Media, Retail, Design and Infocomm Technology sector.

Course Description

This part-time diploma comprises the following 15 modules to be completed over a one-and-a-half years (1.5 years) duration:

Trainer's Profile

Melvin Tan

Melvin Tan is a seasoned educator with over 23 years of experience at Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of InfoComm Technology. He currently leads the Diploma in Immersive Media, where he imparts cutting-edge knowledge in web technologies, gamification, and digital media. Melvin holds a Master of Technology (Software Engineering) from the Institute of Systems Science at the National University of Singapore, as well as an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic & Electrical Engineering from the University of Glasgow, UK.

Melvin’s professional journey spans roles at prominent companies such as Creative Technology, Development Bank of Singapore, and Dresdner Management Consulting (the consulting arm of Dresdner Bank AG). His areas of expertise include software development, web technologies, and interactive media, providing him with a well-rounded foundation in both academic and industry settings.

In addition to his teaching duties, Melvin represents Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore as an expert in Web Technologies for the WorldSkills Competition, where he trains and mentors students to compete at the international level. He is passionate about nurturing the next generation of tech talents.

Melvin is also actively involved in the Singapore Computer Society, serving as the Honorary Treasurer of the Digital Media Chapter. In this role, he is committed to advancing the digital media sector and contributing to the growth of Singapore's tech landscape.

At Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Melvin teaches a diverse range of modules, including Gamification Concepts, Web Design & Development, Digital Photography, and Games Design & Development. Outside of academia, he engages in consultancy work, collaborating with industry leaders such as Canon to develop innovative web applications.

Christina Jimenez

Christina Jimenez holds a Master of Education Degree from the University of Melbourne as well as a Master of Mass Communication Degree from Nanyang Technological University.

Her areas of expertise are in Marketing, Copywriting, Brand Storytelling, Creative Conceptualisation, Advertising, Public Relations, Learning and Development and Mass Communication.

Prior to teaching, Christina worked in advertising agencies McCann Worldwide and JWT, where she created campaigns for brands under Jollibee, Coca-Cola, and Unilever.

Currently, Christina is a Senior Education Specialist in the School of Film & Media Studies at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. She is also the Course Lead for the Part-time Diploma in Digital Communication at NP's CET Academy. She is passionate about using educational technologies in her teaching and learning practices and she strives to equip fellow educators with the skills and knowledge to use these technologies confidently and effectively.

Mike Wee Toon Kim

Mike Wee is an experienced IT professional with over 20 years of expertise in deploying, supporting, and teaching enterprise systems. Throughout his career, he has worked with leading global companies such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and HP, leveraging his knowledge in enterprise computing to drive significant technological advancements and operational efficiencies.

Mike's key domain areas encompass a wide range of critical IT functions, including Enterprise Computing, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Analytics, Data Visualisation, Machine Learning, SAP, Salesforce, PowerBI, Tableau, and Python. His multifaceted skill set enables him to provide comprehensive solutions that meet the complex needs of modern businesses.

Educationally, Mike Wee holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and a Master of Education (MEd) from the University of Adelaide. He also possesses a Bachelor’s Degree (Honors) in Mechanical Engineering from NTU. Complementing his academic achievements, Mike is certified in Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) and is a certified Scrum Master, underscoring his commitment to continuous professional development and excellence in project management.

Mike's extensive experience and diverse skill set make him an asset in the IT field. His proficiency in cutting-edge technologies and enterprise systems has enabled numerous organisations to achieve their strategic goals through effective IT solutions and innovative approaches. Whether it's through enhancing operational capabilities or teaching the next generation of IT professionals, Mike consistently demonstrates a passion for technology and a dedication to excellence.

Jeffrey Zauhari

Jeffrey is a leading figure in the realm of Entertainment and Media, specialising in 2D/3D Motion Graphics, Compositing, ARVR, and Virtual Production. With a BA (Hons) in Digital Media, his qualifications underscore his deep understanding of the digital landscape and their ability to impart knowledge effectively.

As a seasoned Digital Media trainer, Jeffrey brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table. Proficient in graphic design, video editing, animation, and other related competencies, Jeffrey is dedicated to nurturing creativity and talent within the ever-evolving digital media sphere.

Jeffrey’s instructional sessions are not only captivating but also highly practical, tailored to cater to individuals across various skill levels, from beginners to seasoned experts. Their enthusiasm for cultivating creativity and fostering skill development shines through in every session, inspiring learners to push boundaries and explore new horizons in digital media.

This module trains participants to develop, organise and implement a content marketing strategy. Participants will learn to create compelling and engaging content catered to the target audiences’ interests and search trends on digital platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn, e-direct mailers, websites, blogs and podcasts.
Digital Analytics (NP-013427)
This module introduces participants to data analytics to comprehend, forecast and formulate solutions for digital campaigns. Participants will learn how to utilise data analytics tools to monitor and track campaign success across multiple digital channels, including website, email, social media platforms and mobile applications.
Introduction to Digital Marketing (NP-013425)
This module introduces participants to the latest digital tools and platforms to create a digital marketing campaign. Participants will acquire the essential skills and techniques such as search engine optimisation (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), social media marketing, digital advertising, crisis communication and community management.

This module trains participants in the design thinking framework. They will learn to gather user insights, identify problems faced, and ideate and formulate solutions based on real-world scenarios and case studies.
Digital Project Management (NP-013429)
This module equips participants with the fundamentals of Agile methodology and Scrum framework used in the management of digital projects, like developing websites, apps, and digital campaigns.
Portfolio Development (NP-013430)
This module is designed to train participants to develop a professional portfolio that showcases their creative and digital competencies to enhance their marketability and employability as digital communication executives.

Brand and Visual Identity (NP-013406)
This module introduces participants to the fundamental concepts of digital brand communication and identity. Participants will apply the brand identity across various digital platforms in alignment with the brand voice, style guides, company mission and vision and other elements.
Creative Content Design (NP-013405)
This module equips participants with video editing and motion graphic skills to create compelling, contextual content for the media industry.
Introduction to Visual Communication (NP-013404)
The module provides an understanding and practical approach of the design production process end-to-end from concept ideation to execution. Participants will be introduced to visual communication skills including graphic design concepts, typography, colours and layout for digital platforms.

Producing Videos for Digital Media (NP-013423)
This module trains participants in video production to create cost-efficient, quality brand videos. The topics covered include pre-production planning, project management, scripting, storyboarding, camera work, lighting, framing and post-production.
Storytelling Techniques (NP-013424)
This module develops participants’ skills in storytelling to establish a connection between brands and their target audiences. Participants will be taught how to create powerful and consistent brand stories for different digital media assets.
Writing for Digital Media (NP-013422)
This module focuses on writing techniques for digital spaces. Participants will learn the step-by-step processes to develop and hone their writing skills for websites, apps, social media blogs, vlogs, e-commerce platforms, e-direct mailers and other digital platforms.

This module equips participants with the foundational knowledge of User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) design across various digital platforms.
UX Research (NP-013419)
This module introduces participants to user experience research methods and their practical application to understand user experience design.

This module trains participants in web design, where they will be exposed to the technical and aesthetic principles and industry-standard tools used for designing content to be accessed on various devices including desktops, tablets and smartphones.
